VINE CULTURE.

TO THE EDITOB. Sib— ln reply to Mr. Thos. Allan's letter that appeared in the Supplement to the Evening Post of Saturday, 16th instant, I would like to repeat the statement I made before a Committee of the House of Representatives in 1891, viz :— " The success that has attended my efforts makes me believe that over a large area of New Zealand the vine can be cultivated profitably, and an excellent wine could be produced." Later experience of myself and others has tended to confirm the opinion I then expressed. I would ask those who have planted vines not to be discouraged by the statement made by Mr. Allan that a puncheon of good wine will never be made in New Zealand. . . - I am, &c, William H. Beetham.
