THE STOCK ACT IN THE WAIRARAPA.
l bt telegraph.— own correspondent.] Masterton, This Day. , The question of the administration of the Stock Act in this district was discussed at a meeting of the Masterton Agricultural and Pastoral Association on Saturday. The grievance is in the frequent prosecutions of late for exposing for sale sheep infected with lice. The following resolution was passed : — '• That, in the opinion of this Society, the administration df the Stock Act in the district is vexatious and farcical ; that it is paralysing easy and legitimate exchange in sheep ; that it js intensely irritating to the settler* without just cause ; and that in many cases it amounts to persecution." A deputation was appointed to wait on the Minister of Agriculture regarding the matter, and it was decided to invite the co-operation of the Waira'-apa Society. [The Stock Department informs us that "Wairarapa stockowners are treated no more harshly than those of other districts. The Inspector is simply enforcing the provisions of the Act in insisting upon the proper dipping of sheep by persons whose sheep are lice-infected, for the protection of those who do dip properly and keep their flocks clean.]
