A VICTORIAN SEVENTEENTH ON THE LIST. ■^ > HAWTHORNE SIXTY-SEVENTH. THE WELLINGTONIAN' SHOOTS WELL TILL THE LAST RANGE.
(Received July 26, 10 a.m.) i London, 25th July Private Ward, of the Ist Regiment of Devonshire Volunteers, won the Queen's Prize, with an aggregate score of 304, Private Thompson, of the Queen's Rifles, Edinburgh, \vas second with 302, and Sergeant Scott, of the Border Rifle's, was third, his score also being 302. t Bombardier Carter, of Victoria, stands 17lh on the list, and wins £12 and a badge. Hawthorne, of Wellington, with a score of 2So, is 67th, and wins £8. At the 800vds range (10 shots) Carter scored 38 and Hawthorns 47, while at 900 yds (10 shots) Carter made 45 and Hawthorne 30. " HAWTHORNE'S HARD LUCK AT 'ME FINISH. (Received July 26, 10.15 a.m.) London, 25th July. At the SOOyds raDge of the Queen's Prize Match, Hawthorne made Feven bull's-eyes and three inners ; and at 900 yds Carter made five inners and five bull's-eyes. Saw;tho/ne missed oitce, the fault being attributed to a defective cartridge.* Three of the Canadian team scored above Carter. In the Daily Graphic Match, 200 yds, Todd, of Viotoria, won a money prize of £4 3s, and Grummett and Walker, of Victoria, Hamilton, of Queensland, Williams (Wellington), Parsons (Kaikoura),' and Sergt. Somerville (Wauganui) won £2 16s each. In the Duke of Cambridge competition (900 yds and 1000 yds) Reilly, of Victoria, with 37, secured -second place and won £5. In the mptch for the Daily Telegraph' Cup (600 yds) Banks, of Christehurch, won £7 2s, Grummett, of Victoria, £3 10s, King (Oamaru), and Bradley and Ferguspn (Queensland) £2. In the Alexandra Match, SOOyds and 600 yds, ten competitors made 69. The best colonial scores were— Parsons (Kaikoura), King (Oamaru), 68, Williams (Wellington), fleenan, Sankev, and Green (all ot Queensland), 67. (Received July 26, 11.20 a.m.) London, 25th. July. The weather at the Bisley meeting was superb. H.R.H. the Duchess of York presented the prizes to the successful competitors. The Duke of York wished the colonial competitors a pleasant voyage home, and hoped they would compete next year. There was an immense attendance and great cheering at the presentation ceremony. In the St. George's Vase competition Green of Queensland won £8, and King (Oamaru), £7. Both will also receive badges. Walker of Victoria won £5, Moodie of Queensland £4, and Carter of Victoria £3.
