THE FURNITURE TRADE DISPUTE.
♦ The meeting of the operatives of the furniture trade held in the Trades Hall lost night was largely attended. Mr. R. Robinson (President) occupied the chair. None of the masters attending, and no answer Le ng received from them, it decided, a.-, stated by us in yesterday's issue, to lay tue matter before the Conciliation Board. Messrs. Robinson and C. Mumine were appointed to represent the trade before" tne Board. It was resolved that in case of a lock - out occurring each working member should contribute a day's wages towards the support of those members locked out. Mr. A. Collins (President of the Trades Council) and Mr. D. P. Fisher '(Vice-President), who were present, pointed out that the masters were liable if they dismissed men on account of their being Unionists while the3 r were engaged in any dispute. The Trades Council would support the men to their uttermost. Unionists who left the Union without giving three months' notice, or who gave' notice of leaving while a dispute Was on, were liable, it was pointed out, to a penalty of £10. Regarding the statement that Mr. Flockton's men have "been dismissed and their places filled by non- Unionists, Mr. Flockton' assures us that he has not had any dispute with the Union at all, and that it is not true that all his hands have been dismissed. Mr t Fielder's men — some 35 in number — have returned to work as non-Unionists. v
