WAIRARAPA A. AND P. SOCIETY.

♦ (Oub Own Cobbespondent.) The annual meeting of the society was held on Saturday, Mr. W. C. Buchanan, M.H.R., presiding. Thirty members were present. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet the Chairman said the society was to be congratulated upon the splendid grounds they now possessed and their complete appointments. The report showed that over £40 had been paid away this year in prize money in excess of the amount paid the previous year. Whilst acknowledging the cost in time and money in preparing exhibits for the show, it was, open to question whether it was wise to go on increasing the value of the prizes. Mr. Threlkeld, a large breeder and exhibitor, look exception to 100 large money prizes being given, rightly thinking the honour was of more value than the money. (Applause.) Members had been supplied with an extra lady's ticket with their own, and this new departure had been highly appreciated. The Chairman spoke m the highest terms of the liberality of the people in giving special prizes, more especially the Wellington tradespeople. "Deferring to the frozen meat trade, the Chairman went into an elaborate accouut of the causes which led up to its present unsatisfactory condition. Summarised, his remarks went to show that the blame was not attached to this side. The sheop were well bred, and suited to the London market, whilst the freezing was perfect. The fault lay with the shipping companies on the one hand in allowing the cargo to get damaged in transit and whilst removing from the ship to the wharf, and want of perfect, cool storage on the other hand. Referring to the dairy trade, he considered it but in its infoncy in this colony, and they should endeavour to reap every advantage from if. Mr. W. H. Beethain seconded the adoption of the report and balancesheet, which was carried. The following officers wero appointed: --- Patron, Mr. W. C. Buchanan, M.H.R., President, Mr. J. Bidwill ; Vice-Presidents, Messrs. J. Reynolds and A. Anderson; Treasurer, Mr. W. Booth ; Auditor, Mr. F. Feist.
