THE N.Z. GRAND LODGE OF FREEMASONS. A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION.

[BY TELEGBAPH— PBESS ASSOCIATION.! Invebcabgill, 28th April. The first grand Communication of the Grand Lodge of New Zealand met here to-day and excited great interest among the Masonic bodies. About 100 representatives were present. The visiting officers say that it was the most successful and nume-rously-attended function since the inauguration of the Grand Lodge. Bro.Barron was installed asM.W.G.M. for the second term, and the following appointments were made:— Deputy G.M., Rev. W. Beilby, also G.S. of Ilawkes Bay aud Gisborne; Senior G.W., Bro. Thos. W. Allen, jun; G.W., Bro. W. Gif kins'; Grand Superintendent!!, Bros. H. J. Williams (Wellington), Hamilton (Christchurch), Bartlett (Auckland), M. K. Bree (Southland), H. L. Michel (Nelson and West Coast). The financial position was shown to be eminently satisfactory. The benevolent fund had a credit of £1191, and the widows and orphans' fund £382. The installation of the G.M. of Lodge St. John in the evening was largely attended and was followed by a banquet.

The Earl of Eanfurly, Mho will probably arrive here about the date of his natal da} 1 , 14th August, was born in 1856, and is therefore 41 years of age. He was married on 10th February, 1880, and has a family of four children. The Earl is not a stranger to the colonies, having visited them in connection with his fruit-growing farm at Mildura.
