The harrowing accounts of the misery aud destitution wrought by the Easter floods, and the immediate need of help^lo those who have been left destitute, naturally revives the feeling of indignation with which many citizens lately felt at the passage of the Parliamentary vote for the Premier's body-guard. Upon this subject a correspondent writes as his opinion that if the men who compose the contingent were appealed to they would willingly forego their trip to the Old Country if they could feel that the money that is to be so spent would be devoted to their suffering fellowcolonists in the flooded districts. The suggestion is worth publicity, and in any case the '£lo,ooo this military expedition will, we believe, cost is more indefensible now. in face of tlie destitution and misery that has been wrought by the flood thau we ever supposed it could be. Passengers from Wellington can now get through to Wanganui daily, leaving Wellington by G. 30 a.m. train for Palmerston North, connecting with tho train which will leave Palmerston for Feilding at 12.30 p.m. Coaches, having accommodation for about 50 passongers, will then leave Feilding for Kukasiki, Railway Department ferrying passengers over the river. Train can then be taken to Wanganui, which station it is expected to reach about 9 p.m. Passengers from Wellington leaving there by 1.20 p.m. train daily for Palmerston can | leave Palmerston North at G. 30 a.m. next day for Feilding.
