Tho Permanent Artillery furnished the whole of the details for manning Fort Gordon, while the Wellington Navals supplied the gun squads for the other .fort?, the staff duties being in each ease undertaken by men of the Permanent Force. The torpedo boat shortly after 6.30 steamed on into the fairway with a Hongkong target in tow, and as long as daylight lasted ran past the front of the batteries to afford practice to the gunners in laying the guns on a moving target.
