IN MEMORIAM
Clifford. — In loving memory of Arthur Ains- ' worth Clifford, who was drowned whilst bathing in the Bongitikci Eivor, Ist January, 1896. Canterbury and Marton papers please copy. A year has come and gone since the voice we loved was stilled, A place is vacant in our midst which never can be filled. Sad and quick the death-stroke come In the midst of his happy glee, Little he thought as he took his last leap, A plunge in the treacherous sea, That the waters would close and entomb him there, A grave in the watery deep. Tes, that voice is si)ent, and our hearts ore sod, At this the festal time, But our Saviour speaks from His Throne on high, And bids us not to weep, For once He came as a man to die I In order to restore His sheep. And all who trust the Lord below ' ' Will meet on the Heavenly shore. And walk within the golden street, Where parting is no moie. Inserted by those who loved him.
