THE ANTI-SPANISH REVOLT IN THE PHILIPPINES.
, « A SIGNAL DEFEAT OF THE INSURGENTS. REPORTED INTERFERENCE FROM JAPAN. [PBESS ASSOCIATION.] Madrid, 3rd January. The Spaniards are vigorously pursuing their efforts for the suppression of the revolution in the Philippine Islands. Reports from Manila state that, following their recent reverses at Tavete and Noveta, the Spanish troops have inflicted a, severe defeat on the insurgents. The rehels" lost very heavily during the fight. 4th January. Later details show that the Spanish forces attacked 3000 insurgents massed at Bullacan, a town 17 miles north-west of Manila. Eleven hundred of the insurgents were killed, while the Spanish losses amounted to 23 killed. The prisoners who fell into the hands of the Spanish confessed that the rehels had procured their arms from Japan. They also stated that Japan had promised to recognise the revolution if the whole of the Philippines would join the revolt against the Spaniards.
