TWO WARSHIPS IN PORT.

♦ Yesterday afternoon the twin-screw steel cruiser H.M.S. Wallaroo, eight guns, Capt. W. H. B. Graham, arrived in harbour. She was followed a few hours later by the screw corvette H.M.S. Lizard, six guns, Lieutenant and Commander de Crespigny. Since her departure from Wellington on the 26th November, the Wallaroo has visited the West Coast Sounds, Lyttelton, and Port Chalmers. She aJso went on to Nelson, but was unable to enter that port owing to bad weather. The Christmas and Nevr Years' holidays were spent very pleasantly in Picton, which was her last sailing port before reaching Wellington. The Lizard has filled in the time since leaving Wellington by paying visits to Akaroa and Lyttelton. The Wallaroo will remain here until the 18th, when it is probable that she will make a short cruise to other ports of the colony, and return to Wellington in time to meet the Commander-in- Chief of the Australian station, Rear-Admiral Bridge, who with the squadron is to visit Wellington about the first week in February. The length of the Lizard's stay in port is uncertain, but it is expected that she will remain here until the 11th inst. at the least, when, as with the Wallaroo, a short trip will be made to other ports prior to meeting the Commandor-in-Chief here.
