Cocks, Queen's Gambit declined. — Meldrum resigned on the 41st move. Grierson v. Pleasants, Ruy Lopez opening.— Grierson resigned on the 38th move. Gifford v. Barnes, Scotch opening. -- Drawn. Anderson had the bye. This morning Anderson badly defended a Buy Lopez opening with Barnes, and the latter won after a little over an hour's play. Hookbam declined a King's Gambit played by PleasantSj and the former, getting into diflicultie?, resigned on ths 17th move. A closely contested game took place between Cocks and Edward*, but the former got a pawn passed, which iihould give him a win.
