RIFLE MATCHES.
The Wellington Guards held competitions for all classes for Class trophies on Saturday at Polhill's Gully range, the A and B Classes firing at 300 and 600 yds, and C Clare at 200 and 300 yds: seven shots at each range. Some splendid shooting all round was done, those worthy of mention being Privates Ballinger, Aamodt, Edinger, and Hale. There were ten competitors in the A Class, and their average per man was two over centres, which is a capital performance, and speaks well for the Guards marksmen. Below we append the scores, together with the highest aggregates, counting the total of four matches in each class. There are two more matches to be fired in each class, and as there are three and four prizes in each class keen interest is being centred in the last matches. A Class.— Mr. 0. D.
