GOVERNOR HAMPDEN AT NORFOLK ISLAND.

[press association.] (Received November 23, 11 a.m.) Sydney, This Day. The Governor (Lord Hampden) returned in H.M.S. Katoomba on Saturday from his official visit to Norfolk Island. Bringing the Island under the new system of Government was the occasion of much ceremouy. Whatever the feelings of the inhabitants may have been, they made no outward manifestation of displeasure. The Governor was cordially received and entertained by the Islanders. FEDERATION. 4. [press association.] Sydney, 22nd November. The unofficial conference on the Federation question at Bathurst has closed, after putting forward a scheme of Federal finance. Mr. Reid, Premier of New South Wales, visits Queensland next week to try to induce the Government to have that colony represented at the coming statutory Convention.
