The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company also held a sale. Fat sheep realised up to 17s each, while lambs fetched as high as 9s 6d. Mr. W. B. Clarkson, of Canterbury, one 'of the largest operators in live stock in the colony, purchased privately a line of fat cattle. Messrs. A. G. Tome & Co. report on their •salo : — The entries were numerous, including some very fine sheep and cattle, more parti'Ctdarly those of the Ayrshire class. The sale of fat sheep and cattle was lively, and good prices were realised. The sale of sheep was very bad, particularly in the Romney class, •Lincolns and Leicesters being more favoured. The sale of Ayrshires was not good, and in striking contrast to that of last year, and this is all the moro surprising, when we consider the importance of the dairy interest. In Ayrsbires we sold five for the estate of the late Mr. E. Olsen, of New Plymouth, at prices fairly satisfactory, considering that the cattle were not in show condition. Taken altogether the sale was slow and dreary and buyers scarce. • Messrs A. G. Tame <fc Co. report of their horse sale on Saturday :— Owing, no doubt, to the races the number of entries was limited, and the attendance also. There was nothing of any class entered, but a good number of sales resulted. There was not a single draught horse in the yard. We sold a very nice dogcart, horse, and harness for .£37, and harness horses, all light and weedy, from £5 to .£7, and crocks about as usual Good spring cart horses are still wanted, and good useful draughts. The following London market cable message has been received by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Limited, dated 21st instant : — Sheepskins — There is good demand. Medium and coarse crossbred are id per lb higher. [press association/] (Received November 23, 10.30 a.m.) London, 22nd November. Sheepskins are in good demand. Merinos have advanced id, and crossbreds are Jd. The American wheat market is weaker, in sympathy with the European. For the ensuing wool sales 165,000 bales have arrived, and 22,000 have been forwarded direct to the manufacturing districts. Adding the quantity held over from last sales, the total available for the next series is 197,000 bales.
