CO-OPERATION. TO THE EDITOR.
Sir — The system of men working together for the mutual benefit of the whole is sound, so far as my views of it are concerned. There are instances, of course, where the system has been abused, but, taking it upon the whole, to my mind it seems a fair manner , of distributing work. The principal reason which has prompted me to write upon this question is to endeavour to create a spirit of enthusiasm in the breast of my fellowtradesmen, a great many of whom are now idle, and endeavour to get them to take this matter up, with the idea of relieving the distress which is rampant amongst them at the present time. I feel assured that if a co-operative bakery were started in Wellington upon a sound footing it would succeed. lam afraid you would not grant me space to dilate extensively upon the manner in which the " sound footing "isto be established. But I will content myself for the present by merely mooting the idea, aud trust to some abler individual than I to take the matter up. Before I close, I would like to make mention of the fact that a certain influential individual in this city was eagerly desirous, some two or three months ago, of starting such a concern as I have made mention of. I am, &c, A Journeyman Bakeb.
