It was proposed to erect a "truants' school" in which all children who were either habitual truants or had been expelled, or who, as the Chairman expressed it, "were in the habit of playing pitch and toss on the reclaimed land during school hours,*' would be made more amenable to discipline. The Education Board is to be approached with a view to establishing such a school, and appointing an inspector who will see "that wayward children attend the school. It was mentioned that the system of .having a separate school for truants had been tried in Auckland, and had worked in a very satisfactory manner. A monstrosity in the form of a 7-legged lamb with 8 feet is to be seen at Mr. Gillespie's Shepherds' Arms Hotel, Tinakoriroad. The creature is one of this year's lambs from the farm of Mr. Hawkings at South Karori. It is a curious-looking object, with the customary -four legs in their proper places, two additional wellformed "hind legs" growing out just behind the fore legs, and a seventh leg "between the fore legs and the extra pair of hind legs. A well-attended meeting of Nelson College old boys was held yesterday in the Exchange Buildings. Mr. Joynt, Principal of the college, presided, and said that the object of the meeting was to consider a proposal to raise a fund among old boys for the purpose of levelling and otherwise improving the cricket ground atl ached to the college. The movement had originated from a suggestion made by a few, old boys, and there was no way in which they could more effectively give expression to the interest which he had reason to know they all felt in their old school. Mr. Gully moved, and Mr. Firth seconded, that a committee De set up for the purpose of taking the necessary steps towards the raising of a fund. Mr. J. R. Barltrop was elected Secretary of the Committee. It was decided that a circular should be at once issued to all old boys whose whereabouts could be ascertained.
