THE MUNCIPAL ELECTIONS WELLINGTON CITY.
The elections in connection with the City Council passed off very quielly yesterday! The various booths were in charge of the following gentlemen : — Lambton Ward, Mr. A. Boardman ; Cook Ward, Mr. James Ames (Returning Officer); Te Aro Ward, Mr. Joseph Ames ; Thorndon Ward, Mr. R. H. Chinohen. Messrs. J. B. Harcourt (Lambton Ward) and J. J. Devine (Cook Ward) were re-elected. Messrs. C. T. Tatum and C. W. Tanner (the retiring members for Te Aro and Thorndon Wards respectively) were defeated. The result of each election was as follows :— LAMBTON. J. B. Harcourt 604 H. Fielder 658 Majority for Harconrt 61 COOK. J. J. Devine ... 425 A.Wilson 273 H. Fullford ... ... 54 Majority for Frost ... 14 ISLAND BAY WABD. J. Brunskill (retiring member 17 • J. J. Swing 14 Majority for Brunskill 3 Mr. W. J. Foster, Town Clerk, was the Returning' Officer. KARORI. There were three vacancies, and Messrs. Spiers, Hill, and Kilmister were elected. The voting was as follows : — J. F. Spiers 11l L. Hill 95 J. Kilmister ... 78 E. Platt 73 Mr. W. F. England was the Returning Officer. LOWER HUTT. There were three vacancies and six candidates. Messrs. E. B. Jones, Thos. Waugh, and H. Eglinton were elected. The voting was as follows :— E. B. Jones 155 Thomas Waugh ... ... 153 A. Eglinton ... ,„ , 140 E. De Rosa 129 Frank C. Matthews ... ... 65 T.P.Allen ... 25 The Returning Officer was Mr. Percy R. Purser. PETONE. WEST WAED. W, H. Cook , 6G S. Carter 19 SOUTH WABD. A. Fraser 47 T. Webb • 27 NOHTH-EAST TVABD. E. C. Corner 63 Louisa Raby 49 Considerable interest was taken in the contest between Mrs. Raby and Mr. E. C. In yesterday's municipal election in Carterton, Messrs. John Strang and James Hodder were elected, defeating Messrs. A. D. Whyte and Adam Armstrong. . Mastebton, This Day. The Borough Council election took place yesterday, and resulted as follows : — EastWard-R. E. Hornblow, 77; J. L. Murray, 76. West Ward— E. E. Chamberlain, 160; Orlando Pragnell, 86. Messrs. Hornblow and Chamberlain were thus re-elected.
