THE STRANDED STEAMER WAIHI.

It was feared that the heavy south-east gale which was blowing at the mouth of the Wairau River yesterday would have caused the stranded steamer Waihi to suffer heavily, but, according to a telegram received by the Union Steam Ship Co. from Mr. Daniel this morning, such has not been the case. The intention of sending over the Graf ton last night with a quantity of gear had to be abandoned owing to the bad weather. Mr. Daniel decided to remain by the steamer, and Captain North (Master of the Waihi) came over to Wellington in his stead. The sea is now moderating, and Mr. Daniel hopes to make a start towards launching operations to-morrow. Until the vessel is lifted up and righted it will be impossible to ascertain what damage has been done, but a few of the frames which it is supposed are broken will cost very little to repair. A number of rivets can also be seen to be loose.
