WELLINGTON CITY RIFLES.

+ . The prizes won by the marksmen of the Wellington City Rifles in the past shooting season were distributed last night at a social gathering held in Thomas's Hall. The affair was attended by fully 300 people, the other volunteer corps of the city being well represented. Major Collins, who still evinces the greatest interest in his old company, was also present. The hall was prettily decorated,, a prominent feature in the scheme being the siihpension from the ceiling of the company's colours, which were presented by .Mr. Ingpen, an ex-officer of the corps, and his sisters in 1869. The shooting prizes were displayed on the stage, and for the most part consisted of valuable and serviceable articles. The company, numbering 63, was drawn up in the room, and, after a few preliminary remarks from Captain W. Duthie, eacft prize-winner stepped forward to receive his trophy from the hands of Miss Duthie. The list is asfollows: — . B Class — Trophy, £2, Private Hawthorne; company prize, £2, 'Private B. Halpin; morning trophy, £1 10s, Private Bunckenburg; binoculars (pair each), Privates Doyle, Jenkins, and Halpin. Teams Match.— Major Collins's trophy^ won by Private A. Guise's team ; Captain Duthie's trophy, won by Colour-Sergeant Davis's team. Marksmen's Badges. — Private Wjllason, cross rifles and three stars ; Colour-Sergeant Davis, Sergeant Jackson, Corporal Harris, Corporal Rankiu, Privates Dixon, Doyle, Faber, Frandi, Halpin, Madden, and Turner, cross rifles and two stars each. Ammunition Prizes. — Two thousand one hundred rounds, valued at £10, distributed in ammunition prizes. At the invitation of Lieutenant Muir, a cordial vote of thanks was passed to Miss Duthie for her kindness in attending to distribute the prizes. Dancing was indulged in until an early hour this morning, to music supplied by Fischer's String Band. Cor r porals Halpin and Robinson and Private Wickens officiated as M.C.'s. The Company
