THE VOLUNTEERS.

The D Battery went into camp on Saturday afternoon, at Mahanga Bay, under Captain Warren and Lieutenant Kolleston. An exoellent programme of work has been drawn trp by Staff Sergeant-Major Richardson, R.A-, drill being carried On from 445 to 6.30 a.m. and G. 30 to 7.15 p.m. Competitions will bo held for Colonel Pearce's Cup, Mr. W. H. Moorhonse's Cup, Surgeon Collins* Cnp, the Brandon and St. Hill Badges, and Government Badges (four) which oarry JJI eaoh. Saturday afternoon was devoted to getting the Nordenfeldts into position. This morning there was gun drill under the Sergeants, and fire discipline nnder Captain Warren, Sergeant-Major Richardson, and j Sergeant Jeffreys. Colonel Fox will inspect I tho Battery on Saturday afternoon nex6. The Ellen Ballance loaveß at 6 p.m. sharp every evening for Mabanga Bay, and gets into town eaoh morning at 7.4 r >.

There is atill no sign of tho barque Weathersfield. Several nautical experts consider that the vessel is probably in Port Hardy, or one of the adjacent bays, and if it is calm there, as frequently happens after a southerly gale, this would acaonnt for her detention. It has been reported that a large barqne seen in the Strait yesterday morning was the overdue vossel, but tho signalmen inform us that thin vessel was off Cape Campbell, and was heading to the southward.
