LORD AND LADY HAMPDEN AS BICYCLISTS.

What promises to be a new era in garden parties was inaugurated in England recently by Mrs. Bairly Baxendale, of Blackmore End, Welwyn, who conceived the brilliant idea of arranging a series of bicycle races at her garden party, and offering handsome prizes for competition among her guests. The events, which included a number of amusing obstacle races for both ladieß and gentlemen, took place on the lawn at Blackmore End, to the acoompaniment of an excellent band, and the spirited hostess was universally congratulated on the brilliant success of her entertainment. Among the com« petitors for Mrs. Baxendale's very attractive prizps were Viscount Hampden, Viscouut and Viscountess Kilcourae, Lady Ellen Lambert, the Hon. Margaret Brand, the Hon. Alice Brand, and the Hon. Dorothy Braad.
