The dull morning, together with the showers of rain which fell in town this morning, interferes with the attendance at tbo second day's races. Tho coarse appears to be in good order. Waiwetu Handicap, of 50sova ; second hori-e 5 sots from tho stakes. Seven furlongs. Mr. F. Moeller'a br in The Shrtw, 4yrs, by Nordenfoklt— Bianca, 9.-it Gib (Derrett) 1 Mr. W. Davis' oh h Kent, 6yrs, 7st 71b (Matthews) ... . ... 2 Mr. C. Siddell'a br g Moonraker, 4yrs, 7»t (Whittaker) .. 3 Also started — Waingongoro, 7at 101b ; King's Bowman, 7st 91b ; e'ea Serpent, 7st 41b; Ben Varrey, 7st 31b. From a good despatch Kent and King's Bowman went to the front and led along tho back stretob, with Ben Varrey next. At the load King's Bowman retired, and Moonraker, Hen Vatrey, and The Shrew moved np. Kent led into the straight, but The bhrow oarae with ■ well-timed ran, and won rather comfortably by a length and a-half, Moonraker three lengths away. Time, lmin 33seo. Dividend, £3 sa. A heavy shower fell while the first race was being ran, and the weather became threatening. Trial Handioap, of 40 soys ; seoond horse 5 ■ovs from the stakes. Throe quarters of a mile. Mr. F. Davies' br m Leda, 4yrs, 6st 111b (Matthews) 3 Also started— Prince Cole, Bs t Gib ; Brooklet, 7st 101b ; and Senator. 6st 121b. From a good start Senator and Brooklet took up the running and led along the back, Where The Miser moved up. Three furlongs from home the three were running together, the others being bunched three lengths away. Leda rushed to the front at the bend, and led into the straight just clear of The Miser, but lhe Shrew gradual y wore the pair down in tho straight, and won an exoiting race by half a length, a neok separating tho second and third. Time, 2min 19seo. Dividend, £1 ss. Hnrdle Handioap, of 50 soys ; second horse 5 soys from the stakes. One mile and a half. Mr. I. Freeth's oh h lie volt, by Treason — Misohief, 6yrs, 10*t 71b (Arnott) ... l Mr. J. K. Pilbrow's br m Dromedary, aged, 9at slb (O'Hara) . ... 2 Mr. V. Couranto led into the back stretch, with Anroa- nezt, but further oq Revolt joined the leaders and lad into the straight - An exoiting finish resulted in Revolt beating Dromedary, who oame with a late run, by half a length, the same distance separating the second and third horses.
