WELLINGTON A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

This morning's rain was very disconrap ing to those oonoerned in tho maoagemeii of the Agricultural and Pastoral Show, am also to the holiday-making publio. Bofor noon the olonds cleared away, assuring i delightful afternoon. However, snffioien rain had fallen to make the show grouni sloppy and unpleasant underfoot. The champion Southdown was selecte< this morning, the honour going to Mr. W C. .Buohanan's ewe over 18 months, witl lamb at foot. Messrs. Scales and Mowbrai were given a third prize for their Southdowi dry ewe. In spite «f this morning's weather, th< financial success of the ahow is assured. A1 2.30 this afternoon it was estimated thai 6000 people were on the ground, and otheri were still pouring in by road and rail. The suit of clothes made from tbe olotl whioh was woven against time yesterday ai the Wellington Woollen Manufacturing Company's mill is on exhibition to-day with the Company's collection of manufactures'. If is exceedingly well made, and has come in for a large share of admiration. One of the most interesting features on the ground to-day— to which the stook, and even the horse jumping competitions had to take second place— was the public Bohools' tng-of-war, ten boys a Bide. Mr. G. Fisher was judge, and the pulls were very keenly contested betwoen teams representing the various eohoola. The Mount Cook and Te Aro sohoola remained in the longest, and the final ing for the prize— a throe guinea oup— resulted in favour of the Monnt Cook boys. Mr. A. M'Hardie's yearling shorthorn bull Duke of Longlanda came to hand this morning, and so far out-distanced the other competitors that he was awarded first and champion prizes in that class. He is just 15 months old, and took first prize at Hastings, where he was considered too yonng to compete for the championship. He subsequently was awarded first prize and championship at the Palmerston Show, also first and champion at Carterton. On visiting tho Metropolitan Show, at Chrietchurch, he was plaoed first in his class, but was not considered eligible for the championship, on tho gronnd of age. He was, however, entered for a special prize for the boat bull on the ground, and won it, beating tho bull that had been awarded the ohampionahip. Such a record is phenomenal in so young an animal. At ten minutes to 2 his Excellency Lord Glasgow, acoompanied by tho Countess of Glasgow and Lady Augusta Boyle, arrived on the gronnr], with Major Elliot in attendance. Th6y were reoeived officially, Jupp's Band playing the National Anthem. Mr. D. M'Master judged the Lincoln sheep with Mr. Threlkeld. The following are some of to-day's awards : — SHEEP.
