Ev«i»iiia Post Office, ~~ Thursday Afternoon. The Customs duties collected at the port of Wellington for the week ending to-day amounted to £11,367 13s 2d. Beer. £129 2s Geoeob Thokas and Co. report wholesale produce prices as follows :— The marked activity in leading lines of irrain and breadstnffs noticeable last week is still maintained, and judring from the heavy advances that have taken place in the Melbourne and Sydney markets, there is every probability of further upward movements locally. The produce most affected appear to be wheat (with a consequent effect upon flour), oats, barley, maize, chaff, and potatoes. The local quotations are in some instances on a par with southern market values, but when the several forward purchases are absorbed the difference mnst become more equitable. Wfe quote :— Best roller flour, £10 10 a to £10 15s per ton for 200' a; bran, £i 5s per ton ; pollard, £4 10s per ton. Whole wheat, 4s per bushel; shrivelled do, 3s 8d; broken do, 3s sd. Oats, 2s Cd for all descriptions ; oaten sheaf chaff, £4 15s to £5 per ton; oatmeal, £9 10s to £10 10s ; maize, 2s lOd per bushel ; feed barley, 2s kl to 2s sd ; whole beans, Ss 2d ; blue peas, 3a 9d ; pearl barley and split peag, 15s per cwt; cocksfoot grass seed, 3}d to 4d per lb j ryegrass seed, 3s 9d to 4s Cd per bushel ; prime Derwent potatoes, £4 per ton ; prime onions, £8 to £9 ; factory cheese, 4^d to 4{d; bams and bacon, 6}d; bacon, 6d. Prime separator butter (Musket and other brands), fld; dairy, 6d to 7d; pastry, 4d to 5d per lb. Eggs, dull at 7d per dozen. Poultry, per pair— Fowls, 3s; ducks, 4s; geese, 5s 6d; turkeys, 10s. Fungus, 3{i to 3J.lper lb. Abraham akd Williams, Palmerston North, report of their itook market :— At Pobangina on Tuesday there was a useful muster of stook. Yearlings and 18-month steers made 355 ; weaners. 20s to 225 ; 2}. year steers, £3 2s 6d ; ewes and lambs, 10a : hoggeta, 7s Zd to 10s sd. At Palmerston on Thursday we yarded up a full entry of cattle, but condition was wanting. Bidding, howerer, waa active, and practically all the stores sold. Two pens of beet failed to find purchasers, the reserves being excessive. The supply of sheep did not amount to much either in quality or number. Under the hammer the" enquiry was limited, tut all sold afterwards. Medium fat bullocks, £8 Is; do light weights, £5 11s: grown ■tore bullocks, £4 17s to £5 lOg; 2 and 3-year steers, £4 Is ; 3-year do, £4 9a ; 21-jear steers, £3 13s to £3 155; 2-year do, £3 16s; 18-month cattle, £2 Us 6d ; 3-year heifers, £2 9s ; cows, in calf. £3 ss; mixed yearlings and weaners, 32s 6d; weanera, 30s. Messrs Edwards and M'Beath report wages for last week as follows :— Married couples, £70 to £90; carpenters, 10s; brioklayers, 12s; black■miths, 9s to 10s ; painters and glaziers, 8s to 9s 4d ; plumbers and gasfitters, 9s to 10s ; storemen, 42s to 60s; draymen, 42s to 50s ; coachmen, 3os to 3ss ; grooms, 25s to 35s gardeners, 6s to 8s; form hands, 15s to 255 ; milkmen, 25s to 27s hotelmcn 20s to 40s j barmaids, 25s to 30s: waitresses, 15s to 20s; cooks, 25s to 40s; female do, 25s to 355; housemaids, 12s to 20s; general servants, 10s to 14s; nursegirls and boys, 7s to 15s; paperhangers, 9s 4d to 10s. There has been a slight improvement in tho demand for domestic servants. Unskilled labour is plentiful.
