ROMANCE IN MARRIED LIFE.

The particulars of a somewhat romantic case have been reported to the authorities at Scotland Yard, the persons concerned in which are said to be well-known in fashionable society. It appears that some ten years ago an Indian officer married a young lady in the South of England under the happiest auspices, and the husband and -wife took up their residence in India. Four years ago, however, in consequence of the climate of the country not agreeing with the young lady's health, she returned to England alone, leaving her husband to serve his term of office to the full extent. Returning recently, the husband discovered that his wife had married again, her excuse beiug that she had heard on reliable authority that he was dead. Amicable arrangements were about to be made between the legitimate husband and wife when the latter suddenly disappeared with her second lover, leaving no trace of her whereabouts. The case is rendered all the more perplexing in consequence of a letter which the lady has left behind, stating that she was never legally married to the Indian officer, whom she considered to be of uui sound mind. The police have not yet secured any clue as to her whereabouts, but are making strenuous efforts, with a view to the solution of the problem.
