A child, 10 months old, daughter of James O'Connor, farmer, Pukehoe, has been drowned by falling into a boiler. This Day. At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, resolutions were passed (1) urging that a Canadian -Paoifio cable should be laid aa quickly as possible, and that the New Zealand Government should share in the guarantee ; (2) in favour of establishing an Auckland branoh of the Navy League; and (3) urging that District Judges and Stipendiary Magistrates should hold office during good behaviour, and havo their salaries fixed by statute.
