THE HOLIDAY.
To day is the fifty-fourth anniversary of tho birth of the Prinoe of Wales, but for business reasons the event will not be celebrated iv Wellington until Monday. The Wellington Kavals' picnic at Silverstream will, no doubt, be woll patronised. The spot ohoson is an excellent one, and the arrangements which the committee have made should enable everyone to have a very pleasaut outing. There will be raoes for old and young, and hot water will be supplied to all who desire to make their owu tea. Tho Duco and the Mana are to run excursions to Day's Bay, one of the moat charming localities iv tho Wellington distriot. Refreshments at town prices will be obtainable, and hot water will be provided free of chargo. The ontrics for tha athletic sports at Porirua are satisfactory, nnd some olose finishes are expected. The annual meeting of the Tatatahi-Car-terton Kacing Club should attraot many Wellington residents. A garden party and sale of work is to be held in Mr. James Knight's grounds, Lower Hutt, iv connection with tho Lower Hutt Wealeyan Suuday-school. M'Nab's Gardens at the Hntt and Young's Gardens at Karori w ill bo open all day. Tho time-tables on tho Governmout and Manawatu Railway s are advertised in another column. On Monday evening tho Bland Holt season will begin at tho Opera House ; a Beleot concert will be held at the Exohange Hall ; a " social" tendered to Mr. Fiaoher by a number of dancing classes is to tako place at Thomas' Hall : an entertainment is to be hold at the Wellington Navals' Boatshed ; and a smoke concert will bo held at the Wellington Working Men's Club. At Lower Hntt an outertainment will be held iv connection with tho Poraevoranoe Lodge of Good Templars.
