ANTI-CHINESE LEAGUE. TO THE EDITOR.

Sib — Your correspondent " Englishwoman " again appears in your oolnmna in last evening's issue. "Englishwoman" it more amusing than ever. In her loftj British tone ahe smothers everything practical - a hollow British boast ib more to her than the welfare of her own countrymen. As a young New Zealander, from my earliest childhood I have always been taught to look upon the praotioal Bide of things. " Englishwoman would do well to consider the cablegram published in your oolumns re the Chinese. This cablegram followed my last letter, and fully bore out all i had said. Let "Englishwoman " put aside the British boasting, and answer the following questions :— Can a .European oompete with a Chinaman who works from 14 to 16 hours per day, and Sunday when he gets a obauoo, has no holidays worth speaking: of, and hvoB 25 per cent, cheaper than a European ? Is it fair competition, and is it desirable this competition should take place in this oountry P Would "Englishwoman '' like to sco her husband, father, or brother enter into this competition P I might point out to your readers that "Englishwoman" evadea the question at ibsuo, and attempts to draw a rod-herring over the soont, by constantly referring to the Chinese who are at prosent resident here, The quostion is not oonoorning the Chinese who are hero, but those who may oome and probably will come. Mr. Reeve *' Bill does not aim at the Chinese now here, neither doeß the Anti-Chinese League, except in a legitimate way, ot induoing Europeans to enter into a fair competition with them. Mr. Ueoves' Bill ie tor the purpose of preventing the oountry being flooded with hosts ot these Asiatics, whose only so-called virtue is that they will work aud produce to cheaply that no European can compote with thorn ; aud their vicos are bayond mention. ' ' Englishwoman" aoousesnieof being narrow-minded, and advises me to visit X urope. Well, lam not so narrow-minded aa not to look a little ahead and profit by the experience of our neighbours, Viotoiia, New South Walea, and America. These countries bitterly regret that they ever allowed a Chinaman to put his foot on their shores. As to the vißit to Europe, I would ask "Englishwoman" to read in the last issue of the Prohibitionist the Uev. L. M. Isitt's opinion of England, f-ud this might give a oheok to her exalted ideas of British justice and freedom. I would also refer " Kngli«hworqan " to the last isue of the Bulletin, and there she will boo a page of sketches setting forth the " higher aims " which ahe refers to. And lastly, "Englishwoman" says "we will try and spare you." Well, thanks awfully for that, but a narrow minded New Zoalandor like myself is generally content with referring to myselt in the singular, but n lntty )' n,''Miwomaii, and aoinotnuea I lioyulty, ute the puutU ' wu." I am, &c, I Youita New Zealand,
