HORRIBLE DISCOVERY AT SYDNEY.
• A WOMAN'S BODY JAMMED INTO A BOX. [press association I (Received September 2, 11.30 a.m.) Stdnkt, This Day. A oaao, the external appearance of whiah indioated that it contained ordinary merchandise, was found near the water frontage at Woolloomooloo, emitting a strong smell of carbolio acid and decomposing animal matter. The police opened it, and found the body of a young woman. The abdomen had been out open and Bown up again, apparently by a practised hand. The Government Pathologist states that the woman was evidently delivered of a ohild by an operation made on rare occasions, when natural acoouchement is impossible. She had apparently been dead between 20 and 30 hours. The body bad been jammed into the box, and firmly fixed by battens. The theory is advanced that someone skilled in anatomy, without being a regularly qualified Burgeon, did the deed ; that the woman died, and the operator, being frightened, took this moans to get rid of the body. The intention was evidently to throw the box into the water, but high gateß barred the way, and the box was left in an unfrequented part of the street. A woman in the neighbourhood saw a buggy drive up, and a box taken out, apparently by several men, who then drove off. The body was clothed in a nightdress of expensive material.
