THE THORNDON FANCY FAIR.

No prettier Fair has been seen in Wellington than that in aid of St. Mary's Cathedral and Presbytery, which was opened in the Drillshed on Saturday afternoon by Archbishop Redwood. The stalls are arranged in the cornera and along the sides, and are named and presided over aa follows :— No. 1, " Zealandia," represents the Sooiety of the Children of Mary, by Mrs. Trueman and Mies Sheridan ; No. 2, " Coolgardie," by Mesdames O'Moara, Maginnity, and Ramsay; No. 3, "Kiaora," by Mesdames Ken. nedy and Corrigan ; No. 4, " Cosmopolitan," by Mesdames Grace and Johnston ; No. 5, " Old Curiosity Shop," by Mesdames Redward, Redmond, and Collins. Then there ia the *' Tea Kioßk," superintended by Mrs. Baldwin ; the Flower Stall, managed =by Miss Kane ; the Refreshment Stall, by Miss Prendergast; the Zingari's Tent, by Miss Huett ; the Speotroscope, by Miss M'Carthy; a printing machine, by Mr. Lottat j Photographio Gallery, by Mr. E. Daniel (of M'Kee and Gamble) ; Shooting Gallery, by Messrs. Houldsworth and Robinaon ; Asoot Race Game, by Mr. O. M'Cardle ; raffles under tho supervision of Father Dawßon; Punch and Judy Show, &c, &o. The artioles which the stalls contain are, to quote a well-worn phrase, " too numerous to mention." They should be seen, aa they inolude some really beautiful art work, and noveltieß from the Far East. Furthermore, they are all gifta. The spectacle on Saturday evening was a sight worth seeing, the elaborate decorations on the wall and ceiling (oarried out by Captain Collins and othera), bright coloured stalls, and gay dreases of the numeroua assistants, forming altogether a counterpart to the gigantio pantaßoope which ia on view in the hall. Music and danoing formed a ploaaant diversion in the prooeedings, the programme including selections by an orchestra under Mr. S. Cimino, ohoruses and dances by children dreaaed as fairies, &o , and taught by Misa Griffin. One of the contributions was a graceful minuet, oompoaed for the occasion by Maater S. Cimino. Jupp'a Baud played at the opening in the afternoon. The following woro the prize-winners in tho raffles on Saturday : —Mesdames Car. ruthors, Henry, Sergeant, Baldwin, Misses Maginnity and Lingard, Mr. Bould, Count D'Abbana, Meaara. Alaskoll, Andrewa, Foloy, Fiaher, Farmer, Fitzgerald, Kirkby, Condon, Stot, and Park. Saturday night's takings were £132 GJd. To-night's programme inolndes a gavotte by children, items from the " Mikado " and " Ruddigore " by membera of the Amateur Operatic Society, and Highland dances in in character.
