At a meeting of the City Counoil to-night a motion " that owing to the numerous and comprehensive matters contained and dealt with in the Local 'Government Bill together with the important issues involved in the ohanges proposed to be made, this Counoil is of opinion that the Bill ought not to be persevered with this session," wa* negatived by 9 votes to 4 The Mayor 'undertook to call a* special meeting to consider the question. Timabu, 26th August. The Borough CounoiNias passed a reßolution recommending that the Local Govern* ment Bill be postponed till next session, in order that the local bodies may have time to consider its provisional (Our Own Corretpondtnt.J Mastebtoit, This Dat. The Looal Government Bill was cubmitteU to a meeting of the Works Committee of the Borough Council-list evening; but it was resolved to take no action in view of th* approaching conference in connection witfi the Manioipdl Association.
