LEPROSY IN NEW SOUTH WALES.

♦ . The report for 1894 on the administration of the Leprosy Act in New South Wales was laid before the Assembly recently. It states that on the Ist January, 1894, there remained under detention at the leper lazaret 36 persons. During the year 12 persons were reported to the Board, in accordance with the provisions of the 3rd section of the Leproßy Act, as suspected to be suffering from this disease. On investigation seven were found to be ill of some other disease, and five, who proved to have leprosy, were placed in the lazaret. Of these one was a native of New South Wales, of European descent, one a native of Queensland, of European descent, one a native of Saxony, one of New Caledonia, and one of India. The number remaining on the 31st December, 1894, was 40, one native of New South Wales having died during the year. The total number of patients admitted since 1883 is 55, six, of whom were females and natives of New South Wales. Their nationality waa as follows : — Natives of New South Wales, 15, of whom 4 have died ; Queensland, 1 ; China 29, of whom 10 have died ; India, 2; Java, 1 ; West Indies, 1, who was discharged in 1885; England, 1 ; Fiji, 1 ; Solomon Islands, 1 ; New Zealand, 1 ; New Caledonia, 1 ; and Germany, 1.
