«. THE WELLINGTON REPRESENTATIVE TEAM. The Selection Committee has pioked the following toam to represent Wellington against Taranaki on Saturday at Newtown Park.-—Full-back, H. Davidson; threequarters, F. Galloway, W. Boberts, J. Koaohe ; five-eighth, H. Kelly; half-baok, J. Pndney; forwards, F. Yonng, A. Campbell, J. Swindley, J. Poland, Pauling, M'Lean, Hardoastlo ; wiupf forwards, J. Kelly, W. M'Kenzio. The team, together with the emergencies, will meet at the gymnasium on Thursday evening. The Seleotion Committee is to be oongratulated on the team obosen. With one exoeption it is the strongest that could have been pioked. Bourke's extraordinary blunders at Chrietohnroh spoilt his ohanoe of re-selection. Davidson, who was so missed at Christohnroh, is now available, and a better man for the position it wonld bo diffioult to find. Galloway is playing better at three-quarter this season than ever, and, if well fed, will prove very troublesome to his opponents. Boaohe, on the other wing, has earned his oap by his dashing play in club matohes and in the trial tests and his performance against Canterbury on Saturday. Boberts will play at centre three-quarter, a position for whioh he is eminently fitted, though he failed to play Up to his great reputation in Christohurch. H. Kolly has by his fine display at Ohristohuroh, raised himBelf to the first flight of five-eighths in New Zealand. Opposod to the cleverest fiveeight in the colony (White), and playing with a team of forwards who were literally run over, he nevertheless beat the opposing baok division time after time. Strong and plucky, Kelly should prove a tower of strength against the redoubtable Taranaki men. Pudnoy has fairly earned his place at half. Quite as smart as Crauford in the latter's particular strong points, Pudney is oloverer, trickier, and a better defensive player, while he infuses considerable dash in following up, dribbling, and bustling the opposing backs. Swindley, Poland, Pauling, and Young are soruminagora of the first rank, particularly good in the loose, and follow up well, and a better quartet perhaps at the present time cannot be found in the colony. M'Lean, another player whose abilities were shown in the trial matohes, has, by his fine display against the Southerners, fairly earned his place. He is a powerful young forward, whose sorum, line-out, and loose play are always notioeable. M'Lean will be of invaluable aseistanoe. Campbell's form this season has so far not warranted his seleotion, but he has apparently been chosen for his plaoe-kioking abilitie?. Pringle. M'Anally, or Gallagher should certainly have been obosen in preference. Hardoastle is playing up to rep. form, and if the game is at all loose will make it lively for the Taranaki boys. The wing*, J. Kelly and M'Kenzie, are almost certain to give a good aooount of themselves, and the baok division of the opposing team are sure to be continually harassed by these two oraoks. Tho team, all ronnd, should give general satisfaction on the field. If a win against the Northern ohampions is not recorded, at all events the Wellington fifteen can bo relied upon to give them ono of the hardest tussles they have had for some time. A meeting of the Management Committee of the Wellington Football Association was held last night, Mr. C. H. I?ard in the ohair. Final arrangements for sanding the team to Auckland were completed. The team will meet on Thursday night at the Central Hotel to eleot its aaptain. The Wanganni Collegiate Sohool and the Wellington College will meet at Newtown on Friday. [BT TELEORAVH.—PBEBB ASSOCIATION.] Tihabu, 20th August. Aubkland beat South Canterbury to-day by 9 points to nil. The score of the winners was made up of three tries, all gained by Absolum.
