Queen Viototia telegraphed to the German Dragoons congratulating-* hsm on the heroio charge against Marshal Bazaine'a troops at Mars-la-Tom (16th August, 1870). Ten thousand troops assembled to celebrate the anniversary of the viotory, and deoorate with wreaths the memorials of those who fell on that day. . |_SPKCTAL.I Berlin, 18th August. TUo Kaiser, in laving tho foundation of the memorial of tho Battle of Gravelotte (17th Angaat, 1870), said that from the bloodstained Bsed there had sprung a harvest of peaoe, German unity, and liberality. His grandfather had originated a European movement to ameliorate the condition of the working classes, and his memory lived jn their hearts. The suooess of the army was traceable to its oourage, honour, and implicit obedience -qualities which, if maintained, would form the basts of peaoe for Europe.
