MEETING OF CREDITORS.

A meeting in connection with tho bankruptcy of C. L. Becker, draper, Featheraton, was held at the Offioial Assignee's offioe yesterday afternoon. Seven oreditors were present or represented. The liabilities in the estate amount to £150, all unsecured. The prinoipal Wellington oroditors ore— Sargood, Son & Ewen, £43 9s 8d ; D. Lambert, £19; Birnbaum & Son, £53; Dodgshun &Co , £12 ; Hodgson Bros., £17 19s ; Jamo3 Smith, £45 ; Bingr, Harris & Co., £12 8s 7d ; Abbott, Oram & Co., £6 14s ; Brisooe, MacNeil & Co., £5 6s 9d ; W. & J. Staples, £22 ss. Tho bankrupt, under examination, denied having told Mr. Laing, of Sargood, Son & Ewen, that he had £100 over his liabilities. After starting business he paid about £30 of old debts, -another £40 was lost in tailoring, and £40 went in improvements. It was resolved to instruct Mr. F. H. Wood, of Greytown, to sell the stock and pay costs inonrred by Messrs. Cook & Gray. Great dissatisfaction was expressed with the state of the bankrupt's dealings, and it was resolved to oppose his discharge. The meeting was resumed this morning, when the bankrupt said he commencod business with £83 to the bad, of whioh ho paid £25, leaving £58 still due. He also got £30 from his wife. He had not sent away any goods not accounted for in his ledger. The stock-shoots showed all the goods not sold. Ho had not lent any money or given his wife any. All the items paid, oxcept perhaps £15 petty cash, were shown in his books He had paid £5 to a solicitor and £5 in connection with an illegiiimate child. On a request being mado by Mr. Dodgshun that the gold chain the bankrupt nas wearing should be given up, Mr. Pater son, representing Mr. James Smith, movod that the bankrupt be allowed to rotain the ohain, and the motion was oarried. Tho Offioial Assignee said that from the bankrupt's statements there was dearly strong ground for the suspension of his discbarge. He had started business without capital and in debt, and had oarriad on his businoss in snch a way as to make a loss which was much larger than anything in the natnro of tho business oould aooount for. Allowing for everything, there was still a defioionoy of £50 or £60 unaocounted for, which implied a leakage somewhere. The meeting then adjourned nine die.
