ANTI-CHRISTIAN RISINGS IN OTHER TOWNS.
(Reoeived Angust 9, 10 20 a.m.) Shanghai, Bth Augnat. Yesterday a mob attacked the British and American mission bouses at Fathan, near Canton. Tho hospital was demolished. Some of the residents dedjfrom the oity. A Chinese gunboat lias oeen ordered to proooed there. The Vegetarians number 12,000, and are well armed. They state that they intend to destroy the whole of the missions iv the Qaang Tung province, and ejeot the missionaries. It is reported thai; outbreaks against the Christians have taken place in Chingohow, Hupeh, Taiping, and Anlien. Two hundred Sikh troops, stationed at Hongkong, will escort Mr. Mansfield to Kuoheng. Tbe attack was organised by- officials. At n pubiio meeting, resolutions wero carried denouncing the oonnivanoe of the offioiala, and complaints were made of the inadequate means provided by the British Government to protect its subjects in the East, and demanding that pressure be brought to bear on the Chinese Government to stop the outrages. The American Consul in Fooohow reports that he has obtained the names of the leaders in tho massaore.
