FUNE RAL OF THE LATE MR JUSTICE RICHMOND.

The universal respect in Which the late Mr. Justice Richmond was held has found expression in various forms in the last day br two, and was further shown, by the large attendance at his funeral this afttrnoon. All classes in the community were represented. . „ The funeral was to have left the deceased's late residence in Brongbam-streot at a quarter to 2 o'clook, but it was not until five minutes past' 2 that the coffin was carried ont to the hearse by the late Judge's Bonsiand nephews. There were between 60 and 70 carriages, and a great number of people were on foot. The relatives and immediate friends were in carriages aa follows :—: — Firßt oarriage — Mrs. Bichmond, Miss Richmond, Messrs. A. S. Atkinson and C. F. Richmond. Second carriage — Miss E. Richmond, Messrs. D. H. Richmond, B. R. Biohmond, and Alf.ed Bichmond. Third oarriage— Mrs. C. Y. Fell, Mr. A R. Atkinson, Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Atkinson. Fonrth carriage— Mr. and Mrs *M W. Biohmond, Miaß B. liichmond, Mr. E. T. Atkinson. Fifth carriage— Miss Lucy Atkinson, Miss Boliestoo, Messrs. Araold Atkinson and B. H. Richmond. Sixth oarriage— Ber. W. A. Evans, Messrs. M. Chapman, H. Gully, and F. J. Rolleston. Amongst those who paid the last tribute of respect were Major Elliot .(Private Secretary to the Governor) and Captain CampbellPreston (A.D.C ), who were in tho Governor's carriage and who represented His Excellenoy, the Chief Jnstice, Sir B. Stout, and nearly all the members of the Wellington B«r, the Mayor and several members ot tho City Connoil, members of the Legislature and a large gathering of the general public, considerably over a thousand people being present. Mr. Joyce, M.H R , and Mr J C Martin, S.M., represented the Canterbury Law Sooiety, the <Hon. T. W. Hialop the Wellington Law Society, and Messrs. J. B. Blair, A. Dorset, B. Lee, and T. R. Fleming, the Education Board. Lady Atkinson, sister-in-law of the deceased, wa3 unable through illness to be present. The procession went alon<? Brougham. gtreot into EUioe-etreefc, and 'along Sussexsquare to St. Mark'B Chnrch. The solemn tolling of .the church bell an. nonnced to the" congregation which already . half-filled the chnrch that the prooeasion had left the house. It was received at the ohuroh gates by his Lordship the Bishop of Wellington, the Yen. Archdeacons Stock and Fancourt.theßevs.R Coffey.O FitzGerald, and Tis3all, and the members of St. Mark's choir. The choir recited' the opening sentences of the burial service as the coffin was carried up 'the Church, and on entering the organist- (Mr. T. C. Webb) played Chopin'B Funeral March. When the coffin had been placed within the ohancel, the beautiful hymn ''Leao 1 , Kindly Light " was sung, all present joining ' in. The service, which was conducted by the Bishop, assisted by the Bey. B. Coffey, Incumbent, included the lovely anthem " God is a Spirit," and concluded by the choir and congregation singing the well-known hymn, '.'Now the Labourer's Task is Done," the Bishop afterwards pronouncing the Benediction, and the organist playing the " Dead March" in "Saul." The choir stalls were draped with black. . The prooession was then re-formed, and proceeded to the Karori Cemetery, where the interment took place. Evans, Wellington District Law Society, Blenheim Distriot law Society. Judges' Secretaries, Mr. C. T. Batkin, Mr! M. Johnston, Bethune, Fynsent, and Levin ; and Messrs. A. and J. Bethune sent flowers.
