I GAS EXPLOSION ON BOARD SHIP.

By an explosion on 'the barquentine Proeoerity, lying in Elizabeth Bay, the deok was rom up from end to end, and Ponsty. oook tn board the t6bbbl, was seriously injured. A seaman named John Thomas and a boatswain named Nelson were slightly injured. . The vessel had coal on board, and the explosion is attributed to the generation of g&s. It ooourred immediately after Pooaty had carried the riding light into the galley. Two of the orew who were in their bunks in the forward deckhouse had a miraculous eeo&pe. The after portion of the house was tiown away, and the men were ooveted with cebru, but they esoaped without injury. (Received August 5, 11.30 a.m.) < Stdn*t, This Sat. One of the orew of the Prosperity- was nearly naked, and his shirt was on fire. The oook was lifted out of the coals, where he had fallen after being shot to % great height. Hib clothes were on fire/and he, is in great agony. A waterman who brought off ona of the orew was also on fire, and was ■eTerely burned. -The vessel looks like a punt intowhioh coala have been damped.
