Melbourne, This Dat. The men lost in the Eldorado mine appear to have slowly sucoumbed through the exhaustion of air. On Dawkins' billy was scratched on the morning of tho accident-" Feeling weak. Want air. God forgive us. God reign for ever."
The deaih is recorded of Mr. W. Wood, senr., an old Thames celebrity. For many years he published a paper called " Enoch," in which he continually warned the public that the end of all things was near at hand. Mr. Jelliooe this morning approached Mr. Martin, S.il., on behilf of the Assyrian Peter Stephens, in reference to his Worship's remarks in the recent case between Stephens and another Assyrian, when his Worship had stated his intention of putting down with a strong hand faction rows between the Assyrians. in John-street. Mr. Jellicoe said that Stephens thought his character bad suffered by his Worship's remarks. Mr. Martin said he had no intention of implying any disrespect to Stephens, whom he understood to occupy a highly respectable position. He had addressed Stephens because he thought the man was a superior among the Assyrians, and would probably have the most influence in stopping any faction fight, of which there had been a possibility.
