♦ TWO MORE LIVES LOST. [BY TiLUOBAPH.— P3KSS ASSOCIATION.] Christchubch, 12th July. Yesterday 230 of the unemployed were engaged clearing snow and ice in the thorough, fares, and to-day 100 woro employed in the eaine work. A young man named William W. D. Petrio, Kowai Bush, who was out with ethers on Mount Torlesse run extricating sheep whioh were snowed in, waa lost in a snowslip yesterday. Timabtj, 12th July. Wednesday's snow has completely blocked Burkes Pass. Dunjbdin, 12th July. Ernest Love, about 21, mailman between Opbir and Ida Valley, was discovered dead this morning, with his arm looped over the axle of his sulky. He had evidently been frozen to death. A coal famine is threatened at Arrowtown. The mine at Gibbstown waa closed recently by the Mines Department, ponding enquiry concerning an accident, and owing to the snow access to other pits is either difficult or impossible.
