DIGGLE'S TRIUMPHS.
The position of the various billiard players is becoming clearer as the season closes. Roberts, who allowed Dawßon 8,000 start 24,000 up, spotbarred, has beaten him by 2,091. If a thousand be subtracted from this, it is equivalent to Dawson getting 9,000 start, and thus being placed on the same level as other well-known players. Taking Roberts as a fixed standard by which to judge the performances of his challengers — as accurate a test as possible — Diggle, who has beaten the Champion twice (by 4,054 aud 5,603) is an easy match ; Mitchell comes second having only been beaten by Roberts by 31 ; Dawson next, having- been defeated by 1,891 points (after doing the sum alluded to above) and Peall last, Roberts having proved his superiority to the Brixtonian by 2, 272. Bravo Diggle ! The honours of the season rest with him — after the incomparable Roberts. Dawson means to have another try with Diggle in a match of 18,000 up for £200, beginning on the Ist prox, at the Argyll Rooms, but the latter has already won a similar match by 840 points. The more all this is thought of the greater marvel Roberts seems.
