Ykstibday. [Before His Honour the Chief Justice. THE PAIKAKABIKI SHOOTING CAS f . In the case in which Thomas M'lntosh was charged with attempting to murder Mutu Aperahama, at Paikakariki, on the Bth April last, the jury, after a short con* aultation, brought in a yordiot of Not Guilty, and M'lntosh was discharged. This Day. attempt to dlfbadd. Walter Ugdenwaß charged with having, on the 25th March last, with intent to defraud, prooured a telegram to be sent to Mary Ann Lys, as if on tli6 anthcrity of her husband, Charles Gilbert, Lys; also with having forged a vonoher for a money order telegram for payment of £5. Mr Wilfprd appeared in defence of the accused, who pleaded Not Guilty. Mr. T. Brown was foreman of the jury. The case for the* Crown was that Lys, a tailor in business at Hastings, met accused at Kaiwarra, and happened to mention that he intended telegraphing to his wife for money. Ugden afterwards called at the Telegraph Office with the impression that Lys had sent the telegram, bnt Lya had changed his mind, and telegraphed to a fiiend instead. Ugden, finding that the money did not come, sent v telegram in Lys' name, and Mrs. Lys sent JBS, which accused obtained. Accused gave evidence on bis own behalf, stating that ho waa authorised by Lys to send the telegram and receive the money. 1 Left aitting.]
