THE HARBOUR BOARD ELECTION.

MR. BEAUCHAMP RETURNED. Great interest was taken in the Harboar Board election yesterday. Tho candidatesMessrs. H. Beauohamp, J. M'Lellan, and C. W. Tanner — and their friends, were busily engaged all day in bringing voters to the poll, and the Returning Officer (Mr. James Ames) and his assistants were kept hard at work, particularly during tho latter part of the afternoon. Mr. Bcauchamp's candidature was favoured by the Carriers' Union, and no_ fewer than 90 expresses boro placards soliciting votes for that gentleman. Shortly before 7 o'clook tho reßult was deolared as follows: — H. Beauchamp 1877 J. M'Lellan 625 C. W. Tanner 279 Majority for Beauchamp ... 1252 There was loud cheering for Mr. Beauohamp when it was found that ho had been elected, and he was freely congratulated on his success. The successful candidate thanked all who had voted for him, and said he conld assure the ratepayers that he should do his best to promote their interosts while he was a member of the Board. He considered it was a gratifying sign to see co much interest displayed in the election, and he hoped the same amount of interest woald be manifested in municipal matters by people who had a stake in the city. The election had been conducted by tho other candidates and their friends in the best possible spirit, and he bad to thank them all for their oourtesy. He must also thank the Returning Officer for his services, and at the same time express hia obligations to all who had supported him. More oheering having been given for Mr. Beauohamp, the assemblage dispersed.
