He defended the policy of the Government in every respect, and received a unanimous vote of thanks and confidence. This ©at. Mr. Ure, ex-Registrar of Births at Dnnedin, died last night. The dairy factory at Henley has been burnt down. Auckland, This Day. At tho Snpremo Court yesterday, an action was brought by the Colonial Bank of New Zealand against Matthow James Whitelaw, of Kamo, to recover .£2160 10s 2d, balanoe of an account alleged to be owiug by the firm of James Whitolaw -& Son, of Kamo, as an overdraft. The defence r/as that defendant had never been a member of the firm. The jury returned a verdict for tho defendant,- and costs were allowed on the highest ecilo. New Plymouth, This Day. At the Weslejnn Synod of the Wanganui district to day, the Key. Messrs. Bollhouee and Judkins were recommended to pass in their year, ciud Mr. Richards was accepted as a candidate for the ministry.
