ENTERTAINING ROYALTY".
« "I don't limit yer," said Mr. Middlewick to his gentlemauly sou, and we (says the Morniug Chronicle,) do not want to be churlish to the Manchester Corporation. But £0,051 18s. Id. as the cost of a few hours' entertainment of tho Queen ! This is not quite i-o bad as our own gifted Cor-, pnralion, which manages to dispose of £7000 odd iv a single feast in honour of th 3 Prince of Wales. But it is a great sum for a city that has plunged into a great speculation which has just drained it of huge sums of money. The items include £19. 4s. Gd. for three live turtles, £143 for " badges " for the Manchester councillors, and £71 15s. 3d. for " board and lodging " for the royal household, which we thought was rather lavishly provided for at the national cost. We .vuppose the next news about the Manchester local authorities will be that they cannot dream of wasting the ratepayers' money in auy iniquitous schemes for dealing with the unemployed.
