AUSTBALIAN J.C. SPRING MEETING. fUNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION.] Sydney, 15th Septembor. The weather was fine for the opening of the A. J.C. Spring Meeting. The starting machine was used for the first time in the Derby, and worked successfully. The following are the results of the racing :—: — Hurdles.— Pingara, 9st 31b, 1; Billy Boy, lOst 71b, 2; Tramp, 9st 51b, 3. Time, smin 6soo. Trial Stakes, one mile and a quarter. — Isaac, 1 ; King Orry, 2 ; Blarneystone, 3. Won by a length. Time, 2min IGaeo. A.J.C. Derby, of 500 soys. One mile and a half. Mr. S. Gollan'a b c Bonnie Sootland, by St. George— Pair Nell (Morrison) ... 1 Mr. J. B. Clark's br o Choaterman, by Chester— Episode (Gallagher) ... 2 Mr. C. M. Lloyd's eh o Cobbity, by Aberoom—Copra (Gough) 3 The other starters were — Nobleman, At alas, Glennllin, Begina, and First Shot. Betting — 2 to 1 agst Nobleman, sto 2 agat Bonnie Scotland, 7to 1 Cobbity. A splendid start was effected, and on passing the stand Glenullin was in front, with Bonnie Scotland and Cobbity next. After traversing a mile the positions were much the same, except that Nobleman had moved up third, and Regina was tailing off last. Going along the back stretch, Mr. Gollan's colt moved up to the leaders. On entering the straight Nobleman showed up prominently for a moraeit or so, and Chesterman put in a decided challenge. A great race then ensued between tho latter and Bonnie Scotland, the New Zealand colt just lasting long enough to gain the judge's verdict by half a head, Cobbity ten lengths away third, Nobleman nnd Begina together fourth. Time 2min 44sec. Epeom Handicap, one mile. — Uabba, by Splendor-ChinaEoBe, 1 ; Volney, 2; Euroka, 3. Won by a length. Time, lmin 42£ sec. Spring Stakes, one mile and a half.— Brockleigh, 9st 61b, 1 ; Ruenalf, 9at 51b, 2 ; Paris, 9st 61b, 3. Won by three-quarters of a length. Time, 2min 40seo. Kensington Handicap, one mile. — Clinker, Bst 71b, 1 ; Palo Alto, Bat 71b, 2; Lannoeaton, 9stslb, 3. Won easily. Time, lmin 43}seo. The reading of the card last night led to but little business over the Metropolitan Stakes, to be decided on Tuesday. The latest quotations are — 10 to 1 against Paris, Brockleigh, and Nightingale; 12 to 1 The Trier, Boyal Rose, iEolus, Tho Captain, Oxide, Lady Trenton, and Florrie ; 14 to 1 Euroka and Volney.
