BANK AMALGAMATION.

The Colonial Trcasnrer stated in the House of Representatives this afternoon that the Government had received a proposed agreement from the representatives of tho Bank of New Zealand and the Colonial Bank. The Government would consider the proposals, and on Tuesday would bring them before the House. Nothing would be done meantime in tho way of assent ing to the proposals till they had been submitted to the House. The proposals were snoh as to require careful consideration. The Government had not given out, and would not give, anything as to the nature of tho proposals until they wore laid on the table. The intentions of the Government wonld then be announced. Replying to Captain Russell, the Treasurer ■aid the House would bo given full time to consider the question, and wonld not ba hastened in any way.
