A BANKRUPTCY CASE.
IBt Telegbafh.J j unitkd press association. i Auckland, 24th August. At the Bankruptcy Court to-day, before Mr. Justice Conolly, a somewhat unusual application was mado by Mr. C. Buddie — under sootion 162 of the Bankruptcy Aot, which provides that any person adjudicated bankrupt in any British Court, and being undischarged, may, ifhebe poB-e;sed of property in fho colony, bo declared bankrupt in New Zealand also. Mr. Bcrddle applied on behalf of the Sheriff of Midlothian, Scotland, that William Homy Soper, at one time carpanter on H.M. training ship Caledonian, might bo made bankrupt. Iho man, said Mr. Buddie, had acquired land in the colony and registered it in his name. Mr. Campbell, for the defence, put in affidavits to tho effect that though the land was in the name of Soper he was simply a trustee for his housekeeper, whose property it waa. Both parties were put in the box and deponed as to the truth of the affidavits, whereupon His Honour dismissed tho application.
