The Hawkes Bay Flood Relief Committoo has forwarded to Mr. Thomas Gale its report and balanoe-shoet in connection with the funds entrusted to it for the purpose of relieving snfforora from tho Olive floods in December last. The report, which is signed by the Mayor of Napior, Mr. G. H. Swan, Btites that—" The sub-committees took the greatest possible pains to ascertain the real losses and the absolute requirements of the sufferers, and made their awards acoording to the best of their ability and judgment. Groat difficulties wore experienced by them in obtaining reliable information, although the servioes of the police and others resident in the district wore enlisted in that behalf, and it is possible that in boido instances they were misled, but as a rulo your Committeefoels Bare that tho awards made were fair •and equitable. Spooial letters of thanks* ' were forwarded to all large subscribers, to* the oitizens of Wellington and other large' towns, who contributed handsomely, and to* those gentlemen who placed their runs atthe disposal of the sufferers for the depasturing of their cattle. The Committee dasires to draw partionlar attention to the generosity displayed by settlers in thedistrict and the public generally through' out the ' colony, and to thank them" aincerely for their ready response to our call, resnlting in contributions amounting to .£3648 16a 3d. Finally, your Committee begs to express its' most grateful thanks to all those who contributed to the fund, either iv money, produce, or clothing ; to the shipping companies for carrying free of charge tho large quantities of produce, (to., sent from other districts, and to all those who bo ably assisted -iu the management and (distribution of the fund."
